"Hunting Knife" contains lengthy and seemingly inconclusive descriptions of a seaside resort at which Boku observes a mother in her late fifties and her wheelchair-bound son in his late twenties about whom we learn only that the mother has occasional bouts of emotional collapse and her son carries a finely made hunting knife. It is no coincidence, however, that Boku and his wife, both in their late twenties, are trying to decide once and for all whether or not to have children, and the example set by this odd couple is hardly encouraging.
